Meet Percy

This is Percy the Persisitent Spider.
Percy
Percy is big, way too big for my liking. Although the pictures do not clearly reveal his true size, when Percy is all spred out he is bigger than an Oreo.
I do not like Percy or any of his kin folk.
Percy was a very busy spider and built an enormous web on our deck.
It was so big that I was even too scared to go outside for a few days.
Percy's home
I made my move yesterday while Percy was away. With big broom in hand and covered shoes on my feet, I had my bases covered in case Percy decided to attack while I was destroying his home.
Gone in less than 10 seconds.
whew! I'm glad that's over with.

Until today...
Percy's back
Yes, that is Percy. Percy is persistent. He again has built himself a big big web on my deck. This time on the other side of the table.

Damn! Today after I take two shots of whiskey and get my courage up I am going to kill Percy. So long sucka!!

That is one massive web. Wow beautiful looking if it didnt have the spider with it. Yuck!

My dear, would you mind going back outside and getting a closer photo of Percy from the top and not his underside? :) I'm having a bit of trouble making a correct identification.

Except for the size, I'm thinking it's a jewel spider, whose bites are only mildly painful...or maybe the larger Orbweaver who makes the typical 'Charlotte's Web' type web and is yellow with black. Now you wouldn't want to kill Wilbur's friend would you??? :)

Keep in mind, spiders eat lots of bugs like mosquitos, and it can be educational for the kiddos. As long as it's not a recluse or a widow (95% positive it's not) you're in no trouble of serious injury.

Besides, it'll save you some money on halloween decorations.
hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee

giant spiders, scorpions, maybe I don't want to move back to Austin one day! :)

I WILL NOT get any closer!!
but looking at Percy through the window, I believe he is an orbweaver.
Still, he's gotta go!

That is HUGE!!! I love looking at webs when there is some dew on them, but I could do without the spidey. I have a little guy that keeps building on my kitchen window. No matter how many times I get rid of the web, he's back the next day.

Awwww.... come on now.... Orb Weavers pose no threat to humans and eat a vast amount of icky insects. Think how much more impressive a picture of Percy stretched out would be! Hee-hee... Y

You should have Dwayne move him to a tree and then turn off any porch lights that attract bugs and remove the web - he'll relocate further away... that's why he's so close to the house, the lights draw in all the yummy bugs... Better yet, install a bug zapper, it will make food scarce and he and his buddies will go next door - My sisters bug zapper entertains the heck out of Ryan.

BzzzzzZAAAP!!!! 'Bye Bye Bug!' (waves at bug zapper) it's a bit strange, but cute.

I remember after having read Charlotte's Web not being able to squish a spider again!!!

That is one awesome spider web! I don't think I've ever seen one that big!! It would be interesting to observe it for a while, but knowing how much you hate spiders, I know that won't happen! (I can remember when you would scream whenever you saw a little house spider.)

In California, those are called "web weaver spiders" and they usually are gone by November. They apparently were the inspiration for "Charlotte's Web". Ours usually are gone by morning, and we have 3 right now living by our trash! I hate walking into the web by accident!

I have no problem with the senseless murder of Percy. Whack away. However, if you want to see something cool, catch a bug and throw it on the web, then stand back and watch Percy go to work. It is amazing to watch spiders and their prey. I am sure the kids would love it. I guess I am a little sick, huh?

OMG, I hope never to see one in my backyard. SOund like you really took care of him.

First, holy SHIT! That is THEE coolest picture of a Spider web I've ever seen!!
I can't believe you got that close though!
Second, how strange that you know what kind of spider it is! ha!
But, you have childen...don't you know Ms. Spider?
When I killed my last bug, Logan told me, "mom, don't forget, we must be GOOD to bugs!"
Yeah...whatever kid.

You know, you've left us all hanging for almost a whole day waiting to see if you *gasp* slaughtered Mr. Percy... the anticipation is killing me! Don't you know I have nothing else to do all day...I mean except for my work....hee-hee... honestly, I would get rid of the spider too, no way I could get a solid night's sleep knowing he was crawling around nearby... I just like be a butt about things. :)

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWIE.

I guess the scorpions are good for something...they probably would have named Percy something like "Hors D'Ouevre" or "Lunch".
