I'd like to tell you it's been good here.
But it's not been.
paci's goodbye party

Yesterday was the day we said "bye-bye" to Sophie's beloved paci.

We counted down the days on the calendar and had a going away party! Had a few friends over and enjoyed the frosted, sprinkled cupcakes we made. After dinner we addressed an envelope to the hospital, placed paci inside, and mailed it off for a new baby to have. (ok not really, but that's what Sophie thinks. the envelope has been secretely stashed away)

Last night and today have been sheer hell on earth.
I have an overtired, paci-addicted child who needs some medication and therapy for her withdrawal symptoms.
And her mom too.

God have mercy on your soul.

When we did it last year, I thought I would DIE, or the kid would die at my hands, but after the second night, all was forgotten/forgiven.

Be strong, drink heavily.

That is the HARDEST thing to do!
I literally cried when we gave it to the baby next door!
The first 3 or so nights were heartbreaking when he would tell me how much he missed it.
She'll get through this.
I don't envy you right now!

She will be fine and so will her Mama!

Withdrawl is a hard thing.

Way to go Sophie sending her Paci to the new babies!

That's quite a creative way of getting rid of it! :) Poor Sophie, she looks so sad in that picture. :) I am sure she'll survive. :)

Oh man, that has gotta be rough. Try to stay strong, ok? :)

I've heard of this approach of de-paci-ing and mentally filed it away in my "good baby advice to use in the future" file. I especially like the idea of counting down the days so it doesn't come as a total shock to them. So you'll definately have to keep us posted as to how many days she's despondent without her paci. Good luck to both of you! :)

Damn girl. I gotta call you tomorrow.

LOVE the idea. We keep talking about the Pootie Fairy and I have to say it ain't goin' all that well.

Are you giving up smoking while she's giving up her paci? ;)

Wow, you have the answer to every kid dilemna. Way to go, super mom!

Poor, poor, sad Sophie.

We SO lucked out in this department. We came to Dallas to look at houses, forgot that stupid paci, and Nik NEVER mentioned it again. Not even when we got back to Austin. Craziest thing ever.

Luck, I tell ya.

Um, yeah. We did that too but my kid was only about 14 months. We just had to do the cold turkey at bedtime. Longest 3 days of my life. I promise it will get better.

Mine are both thumbsuckers, and the baby-in-mah-BELLY has been caught on sonogram doing the same thing. Our five year old still slurps away on that germy hand and I can't get her to stop, so I'm sort of at a loss. I suppose as long as she takes her thumb out of her mouth long enough to grab her diploma from the president of the Uni, I'll be happy enough. It's still just cute when the 2 year old does it.

Teach her how to chew ice? That's how I stopped smoking. Too bad they don't make a Paci Patch. "Suckerette", anyone? I know y'all have the contacts to do this.

Stay with it... do NOT give up... she will be just FINE.

Candy, the anti-paci woman (but my kids never really got one... I'm mean)

Poor Sophie. She looks so sad.

Thank GOD my kids didn't like those darn things. One less battle for me -- I may actually make it out of toddlerhood alive!

Great way of getting rid of it. :-)

I promise you...from a former mommy of an addict...it will be ok! It's hell! Hell! Hell! However...in a day or so..it will be better.

Hmmmm....let me just say that the boy found his thumb at 4 and has sucked it for the last year and a half. LOL! So go figure. I just fight my battles wisely..and he can just suck away.

Yikes! She will forgive you and forget all about it very soon.

Ohhhhh the memories. G2 would finish his bottle or finish his pasi and would throw them in the trash. So there I would be digging them out. I finally decided that when he threw the last one...that would be it.

Oh Holy Mother Of God...I thought I was going to have to be committed!

How is Miss Sophie doing today?

What an AWESOME idea! You're so darn creative :)

It's so hard to break the pacifier addiction. Fortunately, you can throw them away, lose them, send them to babies in the hospital, etc. and it's over after a few days. With thumb-suckers, you can't get rid of it! It's always with them wherever they go.

Congratulations to Sophie on kicking the habit. Congratulations to all of you for making it through the rough days!

Oh gosh, sorry. It will be worth it, and you will all be so proud when it's over! *hugs*
